Our Story

Summer of 2012

We first met eachother summer of 2012 while I was on a mission trip to the Dominican Republic with my church. He was from the DR and the translator for our team. That trip began the start of our long distance friendship and from there, after several years of crazy circumstances, we realized we wanted more than a friendship. So we began dating long distance in September of 2015; I was in the United States and he was in the DR. I moved from the United States to Honduras in January of 2016 to open up a crisis care center with a ministry and I became a foster mom in 2017 to two beautiful little girls, Andrea and Selah. All along Nino and I were still dating long distance, until he finally moved from the DR to Honduras in November of 2018 to also be a part of the ministry. He stepped into our daily lives so beautifully as we have both had to walk thru some very challenging circumstances. Thru it all, we both realized as we continue our journey together, we want to be husband and wife. We are so excited to celebrate our wedding with all of you and we have waited so long for this special day! Through all of the ups and downs life has continued to bring, we are so joyful that God has joined together our stories. - Sophia

The Proposal

8.30.2019

It all started on August 25th, 2019. On this day I started to plan how to ask my future wife to marry me. I drove with a friend to a nearby town to visit the place where I would soon propose. That same day, August 25th, we had an event to go to and obviously I knew I was going to be a little late... after receiving about 10 phone calls from Sophia asking where I was, I had to say my friend's car broke down on our way to pick up some things for his wife; she fell for it. Then, five days later on August 30th, there I was, the big proposal day had come and I was about to ask her to be my wife. I could not have pulled this off without our incredible friends keeping her busy by holding a training that day at a local ministry. We were all so stressed leading up to the proposal, as Sophia is pretty hard to pull a fast one on. But the moment finally came and it was perfect! Before I knew it, I was down on one knee asking my beautiful girlfriend to become my wife. She said yes! It was one of the best days of my life! -Alberto
