Clay was from Ventura, CA, while Alariza grew up in the San Francisco Bay Area. Our heroes met at San Francisco State University, sometime in the 2005-2006 academic year. They were both Theatre Majors and had a voice class together. On the first day of class, students had to perform a monologue and receive feedback and Alariza still remembers Clay’s introductory performance: it was Oscar’s linguine monologue from “The Odd Couple” by Neil Simon. Clay’s performance was mostly memorable for Alariza because of his voice—she found it so unique! There’s little Alariza remembers from that class, she can’t even remember which monologue she performed, but she will always remember Clay’s monologue. Fast forward years past SFSU days, Clay was an established stand-up comedian in San Francisco and started doing shows in Los Angeles. Why not reconnect with Alariza? They slowly started a casual courtship, but after a year of that, Clay decided he had to move there too…. For his career…. At least that’s what he told himself, but deep down he knows it was because he wanted to be closer to Alariza. He officially moved back to SoCal in February 2020. A pandemic may have slowed down his comedy plans, but it definitely fast forwarded Clay and Alariza’s relationship from causally dating to being madly in love! And now they’re here! Ready to say “til death do us part!”
