To say that we met through mutual friends is an understatement, but it makes a long story short. If you want the long story, read on. On a Saturday night over five years ago in Norfolk, Virginia, Emily was having dinner with some friends. Her friends had recently returned from a trip to Hungary where they travelled with a charming young man, Alan. After some discussion, these friends concluded Emily and Alan would be perfect for each other, and texted Alan who happened to be hanging out with rockstars in Austin, Texas, where he lived. They declared they had found him his perfect woman and they’d see him at the wedding in 3 years. Alan did some light social media stalking, liked what he saw, and replied with a bold: “Is she free for dinner tomorrow?” Emily was just dumb enough to say yes. And just like that, Alan bought a plane ticket from Austin to Norfolk for the next day and took Emily out on what truly has to be the best first blind date in history. From there, through the power of the internet and the commercialization of air travel, we kept up a long distance relationship for a number of years until Emily made the move to Austin. Finally together every day, just in time to be together EVERYDAY. Alan asked Emily to marry him at the end of a fairly obvious scenic walk up a hill to a private bench. She said yes, and now we’re getting married!
