Little did we know that one sport had the power to bring two people together the way it did. What started as a "chance meeting" one night playing volleyball and near instant connection soon grew into something so much more meaningful. Although neither of us truly believe it was due to chance or fate, but rather of divine intervention. Fun fact: Logan nearly hit me in the face with the volleyball more than once that night, and oddly it made me more attracted to him? Idk love is weird. Unfortunately, I had to return to Las Vegas a few days later for preseason training (this date is still a frequently debated topic between us) and the initial few months of "getting to know each other" was all through the phone -- in true millennial style. It didn't take us long at all to realize how our feelings for each other were growing quickly.
After 4 months of getting to know each other over the phone, a few visits back and forth from Phoenix to Las Vegas for Logan, and a whole lot of anticipation....we officially became a couple (although he had my heart long before that). We took a night hike up to Thunderbird Mountain and he pulled out this envelope with a hand-written letter. Instant butterflies for us both. But that was just the beginning. Each of us still had a LOT of school and a lot of volleyball ahead of us...back on the long distance train. Fast forward 3 years, a school transfer, a couple of jobs, 2 graduations, a master's degree and national championship later, we were FINALLY both back in Arizona and we could have a normal relationship. The rest is history.
Watson Lake in Prescott, AZ. Logan wanted to go on a day trip over the weekend, which he had mentioned earlier that week. After enjoying a relaxing drive listening to music and singing (poorly) on the way, we had breakfast in a local diner and headed off to "take a drive" around the city. We ended up at a location that we'd visited before, Watson Lake. The day was beautiful; sun shining, a light breeze, sky blue as could be. Perfect day for a proposal if you ask me. While we took a walk on the rocks surrounding the lake, both of our families were posting up with their cameras ready to document the big moment (in hiding of course). We sat on a rock and enjoyed the weather as he made small talk about the ducks and landscape surrounding us to buy time for everyone to get in their places. As he lead us toward a rock near the edge of the water, he said "Do you trust me? Turn around & close your eyes" At that moment there was no doubt what was about to happen. The next few minutes was a blur. There he was, on one knee, the most beautiful ring in his hand, saying the phrase every girl has waited to hear her whole life: WILL YOU MARRY ME? That may have been the fastest anyone has answered a question ever. And the best part of the whole day was having both of our families with us to celebrate the exciting news!
