Matthaei Botanical Gardens
Where we got engaged and our engagement photos were taken! Enjoy a relaxing walk along the nature trails or the beautiful gardens and greenhouse.
Nichols Arboretum
A classic Ann Arbor nature area with plenty of great trails (and right next to the hospital where we spend so much of our time!) Be sure to check out the Peony Garden, which will be in full bloom around our wedding weekend!
Visit a Park!
There are plenty of great parks nearby including multiple Ann Arbor city parks, Metro parks, and state parks! If you're staying in the Ann Arbor area, Gallop Park is one of Aidan and Dustin's favorites (it's right by our house!)
University of Michigan
Explore campus, the Big House (home of the national champion Wolverines football team), and other features like the natural history museum.
Golf
One of Dustin's favorite activities in Michigan. Favorite courses include the University of Michigan golf course, Eagle Crest, Leslie Park, and Fox Hills. There are plenty of great public courses nearby!
Tube the Huron River
Probably our favorite late spring-early fall activity in Ann Arbor. Such a fun and relaxing way to see Ann Arbor as you float through some of the major parks, past the hospitals, etc. Obviously check the weather forecast in advance - as we've said the weather here is finicky and it may not be hot enough in late May! Check out this website for parking, route mapping, and where to rent tubes. And make sure you plan how you'll get back to your car (learn from our past mistakes!)
Our favorite restaurants
Some of our favorite date night spots are Taste Kitchen (an upscale French-Vietnamese fusion restaurant) and Pacific Rim (an upscale Asian-inspired seafood restaurant), both in downtown Ann Arbor. Or check out one of the Zingerman's restaurants (deli or roadhouse) or Frita Batidos (Cuban street food) to try an Ann Arbor classic!
Coffee
Dustin's favorite coffee shops in the Ann Arbor area include Hyperion, Vertex, and Dozer.
Blank Slate Creamery Brighton
High quality ice cream spot with interesting flavors! There is a location downtown Ann Arbor as well.
Ann Arbor Hands-On Museum and Leslie Science & Nature Center
We've never been, but heard great things about the Ann Arbor Hands-On museum. If you're traveling with toddlers up to school-aged children, definitely check it out. As two pediatricians, it has our stamp of approval!
