We had locked in these wedding hotel rates ahead of time and of course can be subject to change on their website based on availability. If you see a cheaper rate for the hotel room of your choosing, please screenshot and reach out to our hotel concierge, Viviana so she is able to price match you based on your findings. If you choose to not book through the wedding rates please sure that the website you are going through is credible!
Yes, Colombia is safe. We would not have our wedding and risk your safety at an unknown location where you would be potentially hurt. The area around Novotel is safe and there is much to see/experience! With that being said, like any big city please keep in mind that if you do not practice caution and good travel sense you will be putting yourself at risk. Some tips: don’t walk around head down on your phone, avoid wearing flashy jewelry/watches, make sure you have a travel buddy, avoid traveling with large amount of cash, only exchange/take out money at the hotel/mall, don’t walk around at night by yourself and try to make yourself blend in as a local.
You won’t need more than $400 USD and you can exchange your money when you arrive. Just to remind you the hotel is in a mall and they have a place of business where you can exchange your USD for Colombian pesos. Colombians like to tip in cash and it is usually around 10%-20% of the bill, so make sure you carry $50.000 pesos on you in small bills just in case. They do typically accept Visa or Mastercard, but you will find it hard for businesses to accept Amex since the credit card fee is usually too high. Do bring your credit card, but make sure to call and tell your bank you will be out of here country so they do not block your account.
Native Colombians do not typically wear shorts, skirts, dresses, or sandals. Men - Bring light pants; joggers are fine but most people wear jeans in Colombia. Bring tennis shoes and I would stray away from wearing tanks unless you are going to the pool. A float button up or short sleeve with pants and tennis shoes is a great combo. Women - We unfortunately have a lot of pollution in Medellin so be aware that if you wear sandals your feet will get dirty. Tennis shoes with a flowy dress is a great combination. Think linens, chiffon, flowy pants, light tank tops and you will look GREAT! We will just be getting over the rainy season in January so it will be hot and humid! It does rain lightly throughout the day so plan accordingly. Sometimes the temperature does drop at night so if you get cold easily I would bring a light long sleeve or Jean jacket. Colombians take pride in their appearance and LOVE to get dolled up! You will find that the beauty parlors, nail salons and such as always packed and for good reason. Don’t shy away from treating yourself :)
