For our out-of-town guests looking to explore, we recommend making a trip to Pittsburgh—just about an hour away! The city has so much to offer, from catching a Pirates game at beautiful PNC Park, to visiting “the Point” where the city’s three rivers meet, to riding the famous incline up to Mount Washington for some of the best skyline views in the country.
Fallingwater
For those who enjoy architecture and design, Frank Lloyd Wright’s world-famous Fallingwater is just 20 minutes away. Built over a rushing waterfall, this stunning home is considered one of the greatest architectural masterpieces of the 20th century. Guided tours take you through Wright’s unique vision of blending modern design with the natural landscape, making it a must-see experience during your visit.
Laurel Hill State Park
For those who love soaking in beautiful scenery, the Laurel Highlands surrounding SanaView Farms are filled with breathtaking views. Just a short drive away, you’ll find rolling hills, lush forests, and overlooks that showcase the region’s natural beauty. Popular spots include the summit views from Laurel Hill State Park, the sweeping mountain vistas along Route 31, and peaceful walking paths that wind through meadows and woodlands. Idlewild & SoakZone
If you’re bringing kids along or just want a fun day out, Idlewild & SoakZone is about 35 minutes away. It’s one of the oldest amusement parks in the country, with classic rides, a big water park, and plenty of family-friendly attractions. From lazy rivers and water slides to roller coasters and Story Book Forest, it’s a great spot to enjoy a summer day in the Laurel Highlands.
Ohiopyle
For outdoor adventure, Ohiopyle State Park is only about 30 minutes away and is one of the highlights of the Laurel Highlands. The park is known for its waterfalls, including the stunning Cucumber Falls, as well as natural waterslides carved into the rock. Visitors can hike miles of scenic trails, rent bikes along the Great Allegheny Passage, or even try whitewater rafting on the Youghiogheny River. It’s a beautiful place to spend a summer afternoon exploring nature.
Flight 93 National Memorial
Another meaningful stop for our out-of-town guests is the Flight 93 National Memorial, located about 45 minutes away. This site honors the 40 passengers and crew of Flight 93, whose heroic actions on September 11, 2001, prevented further tragedy. Visitors can walk the Memorial Plaza, see the Wall of Names, and explore the Visitor Center, which tells the story of that day and the extraordinary bravery shown. It’s a powerful and moving place of reflection set against the peaceful backdrop of the Somerset County countryside.
