We met for the first time in 2010 through mutual friends at dinner after a concert featuring the "double rainbow" guys. We hit it off, but then disappeared from each other’s lives… Fast forward two years to September 2012. It was at our mutual friend Jason’s birthday where we next met. At the time, Jess was living in Williamsburg, Brooklyn, teaching on Long Island, and had just returned from hiking the Inca Trail in Peru. Zac had finished Graduate School and had just come back from traveling Southeast Asia. Jess flirted with Zac (lots of hair tossing was involved), and Zac was (as usual) oblivious. Later in the evening, after drinks and talks of travel to Machu Pichu, Angkor Wat and Patagonia, Jess had to abruptly leave. At which point she turned to Zac and exclaimed “so are you going to ask for my number or what?” After three amazing dates, we set date number four for October 29, 2012. Unfortunately, that fourth date was also the day that Hurricane Sandy made landfall in NYC. Jess was being evacuated from the Williamsburg waterfront and Zac offered for her to come stay with him and his parents who were taking in other evacuees. In the midst of the most destructive storm NYC has seen in years, Jess and Zac decided to become a proper couple. Almost six years later, we have had many travels, successes, failures, tough and joyous moments. While on vacation in Portugal in April of 2017 (after two days of Jess asking Zac what was wrong with him) Zac proposed. Sitting on the top of an old volcano on the island of Sao Miguel in The Azores, with the endless ocean in front of them, Zac asked if Jess would be his wife. In typical Jess response, she spat out a bunch of expletives in shock and asked for him to ask her again. We are ecstatic to have found each other and to celebrate how far we have come as a couple with you! Photos by Saskia Pearl Kahn http://www.saskiapearlkahn.com/
