On a bright December Sunday, Adrienne and Thomas met at The Met Cloisters, having been set up on a blind date by a mutual friend. Their meeting had been hastily arranged. Neither knew what to expect from the other, but they quickly connected over their shared interests in art, literature, and music. These are large subjects, and the Cloisters is not a particularly large museum. Having exhausted it, they extended their date to drinks at the Campbell Apartment in order to continue their conversation. The date, now running well over schedule, threatened to impinge on prior commitments. But Thomas and Adrienne were not ready to part, and they made arrangements. After a brief interval, during which Thomas secured an extra ticket and Adrienne changed into an evening dress, they ended their first date at a symphony benefit at Eataly.
Things came full circle this summer. On a sweltering July afternoon, Thomas asked Adrienne if she would like to escape the office and head to The Cloisters. Not knowing what was coming, but delighted by the impromptu date, Adrienne headed uptown. Adrienne played tour guide for the afternoon, and eventually brought them to her favorite gallery, the so-called "Treasury Gallery" where the medieval manuscripts, ivory, and gold artifacts are displayed. Just as she was launching into description of an ivory carving displaying the attack on the castle of love, Thomas dropped to his knee and proposed.
