Our wedding Mass will be a Solemn High Mass. This means that there will be three priests, the responses will be sung, and the whole thing will be in Latin. There will be red booklets available that have the Mass with the Latin on the left side and the English translation on the right. And if you get lost, that's okay! We are just happy you're here to celebrate with us.
During the Mass, there will be a lot of sitting, standing and kneeling. If you do not wish to kneel, you may sit. During communion, please do NOT receive unless you are a Baptized Catholic in good standing. We also ask that everyone be quiet and respectful while inside the church: please silence your cell phones and do not speak unless necessary.
The most important thing is to maintain a quiet and reverent demeanor within the church. You can follow along with the Latin in one of the red books, which has the Latin on one side and the English on the other. Ladies may cover their heads, but do not need to. Also, the Latin Mass does not offer communion in the hand. If you are a practicing Catholic who has recently gone to confession and you want to receive communion, please process up to the altar rail at the appropriate time. There you will kneel and receive the Eucharist on the tongue. You do not need to say "Amen" as the priest says that for you.
For men: please wear a nice button down shirt, do not wear jeans, and do not wear a hat For women: please cover your shoulders and back, keep dresses and skirts to just above the knee, and please avoid especially tight clothing. Note: Traditional Catholic women often cover their hair during Mass, so you may see other ladies wearing veils, scarves, or hats. This is not a requirement and you are under no obligation to do so.
We recommend taking the Metro or an Uber. Our reception venue is right across the street from the Clarendon Metro station (Orange or Silver line) so it's very easily accessible.
Probably. Our reception venue is going to be very tight as it is, so we ask that if you want to bring a +1, please reach out to Christian or Adrienne directly so we can see how the guest list is doing.
