We met in September of 2023 as first year students at Westminster Theological Seminary, when Adriana was working at the front desk of the library and Jaehyeon walked in to pick up his student ID and check out some books. We saw each other only in passing a few more times until February of 2024, when we were finally in a class together (Greek 3).
After a few more friendly chats, Jaehyeon decided he wanted to get to know Addie better, and soon we hit it off. It took a couple more outings to local cafes to study together, but Addie eventually started picking up on his hints, and when he was away for a week in India on a mission trip, she realised she was interested in him as well. When he returned, he confessed he liked her as more than a friend and she was secretly excited but told him we should discuss our feelings after our final exam (lol).
Immediately after completing the Greek 3 final exam, Jaehyeon asked Adriana out and that night, she agreed to be his girlfriend. We met up in Chestnut Hill that Saturday for brunch at Matines Cafe. Together, we wandered around gift shops and record stores and explored the Laurel Hill Garden Center before parting ways and continuing to think about each other for the rest of the day.
On May 8, 2025, Jaehyeon asked Adriana to marry him with an SBL formatted essay (with footnotes and a list of abbreviations) during our anniversary picnic in Andorra Meadow. He bought the ring 4 months earlier after conferring with her family but kept the plan secret. She was surprised, honoured, and so thrilled to accept his proposal. We've had a lovely rest of the year celebrating with family and now we are very pleased to welcome you to our wedding and spend the rest of our lives together!
The following Friday (5/29) we will both graduate with master's degrees from WTS and then set out on our international trip. First, it's honeymoon time at a cabin in the Catskill Mountains! Then a few weeks later we'll make a stop in Korea for a second wedding celebration with the family members there who can't make it to Philly this May and spend the rest of the summer there. After that, we will (Lord willing) be packing up and moving to Cambridge, England where Jaehyeon will be pursuing a PhD in Old Testament at the University of Cambridge. Addie has lived there previously and very much looks forward to returning and hopes to teach English and continue work on a book, and Jaehyeon is especially excited to study the Song of Songs, which has long been his passion and fascination.
We love to garden and birdwatch, take walks and study at cafés or to Middle Earth background music together and, of course, spend summer afternoons at the beach! We're all about our faith, love of travel, and family (also jazz music, dogs, movies, etc.) and we have an entire shared language of abbreviations and acronyms, some of them very long.
