On May 25, 2012, Paul and Adriana went on their first date. They stopped at Kilwins and bought ice cream (she, a rum raisin scoop in a waffle cone; he, has no memory of his ice cream flavor) and then walked across Ocean Drive, sitting down on a bench and talking the afternoon away in Humiston Park.
Like all fun engagement stories, this one began with a bit of deception. On July 2, 2019, while on vacation in their hometown of Vero Beach, Florida, Paul told Adriana they would be getting dinner with his parents that evening and then having a date night over drinks. When they arrived at the restaurant ten minutes early for the reservation, Paul (or Adriana - this fact is disputed) suggested they go for a walk in Humiston Park, the site of their first date. A ruse! As they entered the park, Paul commented on how they'd had their first date in this very park...first getting ice cream at Kilwin's, and then sitting down on a bench near the boardwalk. In front of that same bench, Paul dropped down onto one knee and asked Adriana to marry him. While neither Paul nor Adriana has any memory of Paul's speech, they're pretty sure she said yes. Then she started crying.
