Travel Note

MUTUAL AID IS THE WAY

The last thing we want is to make this event cost-stressful, if not cost-prohibitive, for anyone— if you are coming from out of town and are looking for cost-effective modes of transportation and/or lodging (i.e. carpools, fleeting Amtrak deals, a trusted friend's couch), please just let us know. By please let us know, we mean really, truly, please do let us know. And if you have a spare room, futon, seat in your Honda, bundle of points on Amtrak, also please do let know so we can start matching folks and goods up.

AMTRAKS, NJ TRANSITS, AND SEPTAS

Philadelphia, a great metropole of the Eastern Seaboard, has, like much of the United States, been devastated by the defunding of public transit systems and the incentivization of private car ownership, with commuters footing the ever-increasing bill for transit that is often times wildly inaccessible and inconvenient. This is bad! What is good: Philly's Center City has remained a well-connected, accessible, safe hub for public transit users. Riders from New York City and Jersey can use the NJ Transit to SEPTA connect to reach 30th Street (which requires a transfer at Trenton Transit Center) or book an Amtrak (look for fares throughout the day, they often spontaneously drop at night), with many buses operating along the same route. Amtrak is also a great option for those of you coming from Virginia/Maryland. Once in Philly, local buses, including the 2, 12, 17, and 64 will be extraordinarily useful in getting around town; our venue, The Deacon, is also located a few minutes away from the Broad Street Line (BSL) and Market-Frankford Line (L) that make for rapid transit all around. All SEPTA vehicles accept card and Apple Pay. We've observed, though, most of Philadelphia is walkable, especially in the pleasant throes of fall. With cars, just beware, parking sparsities abound and the Philadelphia Parking Authority are fiendish ticketers.
