The year was 2016. While Darren himself thought he was 'crushing it', Darren's sister Donna had encouraged Darren to be more...social, and signed him up for an adult kickball league. While playing, he met Lanae and Yannick Schwarz. Ever the socialites, Lanae and Yann had set up a Happy Hour with friends from kickball, as well as some of their personal friends, at the Happiest Hour in Dallas in November. It was there Christina and Darren first met. But, instead of the happy ending happening there, Darren and Christina parted ways and would not communicate until a month later when Lanae again reached out to Darren asking him 'What he thought of Christina'. Darren thought nothing of it. Eventually, Christina took matters into her own hands, texting Darren later that same month, December. Eventually the two agreed to meet up on New Years Eve at Christina's apartment where Christina was having a small group of friends over. They ended up celebrating the New Year together and they stayed up until 4am talking. Darren asked Christina a few days later to go to a Dallas Stars game and the couple began dating, officially, in February 2017. They now live together in Euless, TX with their two dogs, Jax and Daisy.
It was spring of 2019. Darren was in the midst of finishing graduate school and had always talked about how he would propose after earning his degree. Christina braced herself. She didn’t know how. She didn’t know where. But, she knew it was coming. The couple had been fortunate enough to gain Southwest Airlines Passes that allowed them to travel regularly. Darren, knowing Christina was always on her toes, had to be careful. He played up a trip in May to Napa Valley with friends and family and intentionally slipped into conversation about how excited he was for this particular trip. Christina secretly thought - "This is it"! Unbeknownst to her, Darren already arranged with friends and family to run interference... for a different trip. He sat with her parents and informed them of his plans for the real proposal weekend. Instead of Napa, he planned yet another getaway to North Carolina for a 'graduation party' with family. She was none the wiser. On Saturday, May 4th, they set out for Childress Vineyards (a place the Webber's cherished as a pastime for drinking wine-a-ritas on the porch) to meet with Donna. Arriving early, Darren suggested going for a walk. At the dock of the winery, he surprised Christina by dropping to one knee. Initially surprised, she laughed it off, and, of course, said 'Yes'! After the proposal, they walked inside to have lunch and were immediately greeted by all of his and her family members and friends. Caught up in the moment and surprised by the surrounding of their loved ones, happy tears were shed. It was an absolutely fantastic day of sharing wine, food and stories. Christina and Darren will forever cherish that day, and the efforts their friends and family made to share it with them!
