Located right on the coast (a rare find for Maya sites!), Cerros is just a short boat or car ride away. It’s a peaceful, partially unexcavated site where you can climb a 60-foot temple for an incredible panoramic view of Corozal Bay. It’s rarely crowded, so you’ll feel like you have the ancient world all to yourself.
For the nature lovers, Shipstern is a must. It covers over 20,000 acres of untouched forest and lagoons. You can visit the butterfly botanical garden or climb the 75-foot observation tower to see across the canopy all the way to the sea. Keep an eye out for toucans, egrets, and—if you're lucky—local wildlife like tapirs or foxes.
Sarteneja is a charming, traditional fishing village known for its master boat builders. Spend an hour or two walking the seafront, visiting the local wooden sailboat workshops, and grabbing a "Pantí Ripper" (coconut rum and pineapple) at a local bar. It’s the only place in mainland Belize where you can watch the sun set directly over the water.
