Cacique and Adia met while Adia was visiting her brother, Ron, in Houston. They connected after Cacique asked Adia to rob a bank with him. Because of her distinctive voice Adia suggested dinner instead. They chatted for nearly an hour before even placing orders. The very next day Adia headed off to meet her girls in Cabo San Lucas; when she returned they went for date number 2. Dinner turned into playing pool. Playing pool turned into a beer garden. A beer garden turned into a sitting by the Bayou (it's a southern thing..maybe?). The very next day Adia headed off to Cabo Verde. Even with several time zones and over 7,400 miles between them they talked every day. After a couple months of island hopping, Adia arrived back in Houston for date three. The one-way ticket and the 8 suitcases she piled into the Tesla (insert rolling eyes emoji) weren't enough of a hint for him so after about three days she said I live here now.

Cacique planned the proposal for nearly 9 months! In the Spring of 2019, they took each other to visit their parents and hometowns. On that visit, Cacique asked Mr. Barboza for his permission to marry the baby Barboza. Who knew Mr. Barboza could keep a secret?! Then on Thanksgiving morning Cacique suggested starting a new tradition of starting the holiday by stating what they are each thankful for and the always agreeable Adia obliged. When his turn arrived he rustled around searching the tiny box he'd just hid and said (with confidence I might add) "I'm thankful I found the woman I want to spend the rest of my life with."
