The bar where Jake proposed to Adar! Amazing Japanese inspired cocktails and a rotating soundtrack of vinyl records. Pretend you're in a Murakami novel.
An Oakland landmark. Take in the sights, the sounds, and sometimes the smells of downtown Oakland. Just don't mess with the geese.
Amazing collection of California art. So having California in the name isn't redundant.
See the old Theater Palace of days of yore. Learn the difference between restoration and renovation and annoy your friends by explaining it to them! This amazing tour of the depths of the art deco Paramount Theater is open to the public most Saturdays -- check the schedule and book here: https://www.paramountoakland.org/history_news/tours
They're trees, but smaller.
Amazing local movie theater. No, it's not weird that they have couches instead of actual movie seats.
The person at the counter will judge you based on what you buy, which means this is a great record store.
Great place to hang out, drink a cocktail, and enjoy the scenery of Lake Merritt. Jake and Adar's dog always wants to go here because one time someone accidentally dropped a burger on the floor.
Killer beer (and slushies) and burgers and great Oakland vibes. The perfect sweet spot between dive bar and regular bar.
Incredible beer selection. You can drink one there, take it back to your hotel room, or even drink it outside on the street, who are we to judge.
Great dive bar with live local bands. For some reason musicians keep moving here even though it doesn't make any sense financially.
Nice cocktails and boozy slushies. A proper "grown up" bar.
Great neighborhood sports bar. You don't have to necessarily like sports to come here, you can just like wings, it's cool.
Another great beer and burger spot. We don't need any more of them but I'm not complaining.
Great coffee and Turkish food.
Great coffee and bougie food.
Great place to grab a coffee and a pastry. Not great for those who can't eat gluten. There is... a lot of gluten here.
Amazing burgers, garlic fries, and shakes. No fake burgers here.
Killer take out spot for shawarma and falafel. You might smell like garlic for a while after.
Delicious tacos, burritos, and quesadillas. Named after dogs that look weird.
Jake and Adar's go to Mexican take out spot.
It's better than the old one.
It's Ming's. It's tasty. You'll share a table with strangers who mind their own business and their own dumplings.
Nice sit down spot for ramen and sushi across the street from the Fox Theater. A favorite of Jake and Adar's before, during, or after shows.
Great seafood-heavy menu.
If you're looking to splurge a little bit, this spot has a great space and a great menu. Plus, ooh, so chic.
