About the Place
Lake Atitlán is one of the most precious treasures of the Republic of Guatemala and recognized as UNESCO World Heritage Site and In the words of Alexander Von Humboldt, "Lake Atitlán is the most beautiful lake in the world." Many geologists believe that the lake began to form after the collapse of a volcanic caldera more than 85,000 years ago. Lake Atitlán is located about 1,562 metres above sea level in the region of Solola, Guatemala. It is an endorheic lake, i.e., a closed-basin lake that does not flow into the sea, and its area covers 130 square kilometres (approx. 50 miles). At a maximum depth of about 340 metres, Lake Atitlán is the deepest in Central America.

To get to Guatemala from anywhere in the world, you will fly into LA AURORA INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT, as it is the biggest and most accessible airport in the country of Guatemala. From there you have several options to get to Panajachel. Shuttle, private car, helicopter.

So if you want to try the real Guatemalan cuisine, this is the place for you to do a pit stop. The area has a chilly climate because of its altitude, forests and mountains that surrounds it.

There are multiple private shuttles that can transport you from the airport to Panajachel, most of them will have a kiosk in the airport. The hotel has transportation services for airport pickup - to Hotel Atitlan as well. Note that this is 3 hour drive from the capital to the lake. If interested please contact the hotel directly so they can set you up for pickup.
