We’re getting married!

On 10/30/18, I had decided to go to a Young Catholic Professionals© event at the St. Charles Lwanga Parish in Detroit since I was encouraged by my employer at the time to go to networking events. My girlfriends told me they couldn’t come, so I said to myself, “This is an opportunity for me to make new friends today.” I went to the networking and speaker portions of the night. Afterwards, there was an after party, which was at Traffic Jam and Snug in Detroit. Soon after talking to some people, their friends from church, St. Joseph Shrine, started coming to sit with us and they brought along Adam, who lived with those friends. Adam sat right next to me and we struck a conversation. I learned he had been going to Sweetest Heart of Mary, which is a Polish church in Detroit and is an outstanding historical landmark in the city. This is the church we will be getting married at!! At that time in my faith journey, I was interested in attending a traditional Latin Mass especially after speaking with those who are parishioners there while at Traffic Jam and Snug. I asked a good friend of mine, Jess, who had grown up going to the Latin Mass, to go to Mass with me at St. Joseph Shrine. I instantly fell in love with the reverence that one experiences at this kind of Mass and I kept going. After awhile, Adam learned through some friends that I had been attending Mass at St. Joe’s, so he started coming. We connected in the social hall after Mass and began hanging out. Soon after the beginning after the start of 2019, we officially began dating. Ever since we met, our faith journeys have merged together and we continue to help each other become better people within the context of practicing traditional Catholicism. Adam and I love being part of the revival of the traditional Latin Mass especially as our city, Detroit, is also going through a revival. I feel so lucky to have found someone who shares the same faith and general outlook on life as me! Can’t wait to marry Adam!

Adam took me to a new wine bar in Detroit, Cata Vino, where we drank wine and shared appetizers from a charcuterie board, my favorite. It was such a classy place and we have returned there since to enjoy Detroit’s first Spanish wine bar and mercado. During our first date, we discussed details of our lives with intentions of laying a strong foundation to build upon for our potential relationship. It was our openness and honesty during that first date that laid imperative groundwork for building a solid relationship to prepare us for marriage.

We made our relationship official on January 6th, 2019, the feast of the Epiphany. We say that we were each other’s gift that day like how Jesus received gifts from the Magi. We celebrated our 1 year anniversary at The Apparatus Room in Downtown Detroit, which was one of the BEST dinners we have ever had.

Adam and I love cute, historical towns, and during the pandemic, we decided not to fly anywhere for a mini-getaway. This made it easy to decide to go to Lexington, KY, which is a cute, historical town that we could drive to. The day Adam proposed, he took me to a beautiful secluded garden in the University of Kentucky’s Arboretum and asked me to marry him and spend the rest of his life with him. I said yes! The ring is exactly what I had imagined and I couldn’t be more grateful for Adam’s attention to detail. After I said yes, he took me to the Kentucky Castle for the most delicious dinner! Afterwards, we drove back to where we were staying and both sets of our parents were there and surprised me! We celebrated the rest of the weekend all together and made memories that will last a lifetime.
