Times Square
One should be sure to see Times Square at least once (and once is usually enough)! You can make customizable candy at the M&M store and get deluxe sized Hershey's Kisses at the Hershey's store. Be sure to avoid people dressed as Mickey Mouse or Elmo – they are scammers. While in the area, you should be sure to swing by the New York Public Library's main branch on 42nd Street and 5th Avenue. It is very beautiful inside, and they often have interesting exhibits. Siempre decimos que hay que visitar Times Square al menos una vez en la vida. En la tienda de M&M’s puedes crear tus propias chocolatinas personalizadas, y en la de Hershey’s encontrarás Kisses gigantes. Intenta evitar a las personas disfrazadas de Mickey Mouse o Elmo, ya que suelen ser estafadores. Te recomendamos que también visites la Biblioteca Pública de Nueva York, situada en la calle 42 con la Quinta Avenida. Es preciosa por dentro y a menudo tienen exposiciones muy interesantes.
Broadway & Met Opera
When in New York, try to take advantage of our world class productions in midtown's theater district. Our personal favorite is Hamilton (we sing through the whole album on road trips). Other great options include The Lion King, Wicked, The Book of Mormon, and Moulin Rouge. The Metropolitan Opera House located in Lincoln Center will be performing a time-tested production of Puccini's Turandot. Un viaje a Nueva York no estaría completo sin vivir la magia de los musicales de Broadway. Nuestro favorito es Hamilton, por su creativa, trepidante y emotiva banda sonora, aunque a nuestros amigos españoles les recomendamos el musical "Buenavista Social Club." Para los amantes de la música clásica, el Metropolitan Opera House, ubicado en Lincoln Center, es una parada obligatoria para poder ver en dichas fechas la obra Turandot de Puccini.
Central Park
Almu and Adam live on the Upper West Side, a neighborhood right next to our lovely Central Park. Located right in the heart of the city, Central Park is a must-see. When we're in the park, we enjoy walking around the reservoir, picnicking on the great lawn, and row-boating next to Bethesda Fountain. A favorite activity in the spring is to rent bikes and ride through the park, taking in the nature and the sights. Vivimos en el Upper West Side, justo al lado de nuestro querido Central Park, ubicado en el corazón de Manhattan. Pasear por este parque es una de nuestras actividades favoritas. Es el lugar perfecto para hacer un picnic en el Great Lawn o alquilar un bote en la terraza Bethesda. En primavera, nos encanta recorrerlo en bicicleta, disfrutando de la naturaleza y de las vistas espectaculares que ofrece el parque.
High Line
New York used to be filled with "Elevated Lines," train tracks built on platforms which loomed above the city streets. These have almost all been removed, but one such platform has been converted into a lovely walking path. A walk along the High Line is a unique way to see New York, and is decorated with flowers, plants, and art made by local artists. Before walking the High Line, we recommend that you spend some time in Chelsea Market and check out Little Island. A día de hoy la gran mayoría han sido demolidas, pero una de ellas recientemente la han transformado en un encantador paseo peatonal. Brooklyn Bridge
Walking across the Brooklyn Bridge offers unrivaled views of Manhattan and connects two great boroughs. On the Manhattan side, the Financial District boasts impressive architecture (the Woolworth Building's lobby is private but stunning–look around quickly before they kick you out). The South Street Seaport, a historic district, is worth exploring as well. Across the bridge, Brooklyn’s DUMBO is a picturesque neighborhood of cobblestone streets and sunset city views. Caminar por el Puente de Brooklyn ofrece vistas únicas de Manhattan y conecta los boroughs de Manhattan y Brooklyn. En el Distrito Financiero podrás admirar la arquitectura del vestíbulo del Edificio Woolworth y el distrito histórico de South Street Seaport. Al otro lado del puente, DUMBO en Brooklyn es un pintoresco barrio de calles empedradas, perfecto para disfrutar de las vistas de la ciudad al atardecer.
SoHo
Soho has the largest collection of cast-iron architecture in the world. There are many art galleries, as well as boutique clothing and furniture stores in this neighborhood. After walking Soho and taking in the beautiful buildings, head up McDougal Street into Greenwich Village. This historic street, once the stomping grounds of Bob Dylan and Jack Kerouac, has cool neon signs, jazz bars (Adam and Almu went to "Groove" on their second date), and the Comedy Cellar. SoHo tiene la mayor colección de arquitectura de hierro fundido del mundo. En este barrio encontrarás numerosas galerías de arte, así como tiendas boutique de ropa y diseño de interiores. Tras recorrer sus calles, te recomendamos subir por la calle McDougal hasta llegar al Greenwich Village. Esta calle histórica, donde vivieron artistas como Bob Dylan y Jack Kerouac, está llena de vida con sus llamativos letreros, bares de jazz y el famoso Comedy Cellar (sótano de la comedia).
The Lower East Side
The Mark family's roots can be traced back to the Lower East Side, a lively neighborhood with much to do. Moishe's Bakery on Grand Street is a cash-only hole-in-the-wall gem where you can feast on traditional Jewish classics (babka, seven-layer cake, rugelach, etc.) and hard to find delicacies (try the tzibble kuchn!). Also be sure to also check out the Eldrige Street Synagogue, the Tenement Museum, grab a pickle from the Pickle Guys or a kasha knish from Yonah Schimmel's. Las raíces de la familia Mark se remontan al Lower East Side, un barrio muy animado y lleno de historia. En Moishe's Bakery, en Grand Street, podrás probar dulces clásicos judíos como babka, seven-layer cake o rugelach. También te animamos a visitar la Sinagoga de Eldridge Street, el Museo de los Tenements y a probar un pepinillo de Pickle Guys o un knish de Yonah Schimmel's.
Chinatown and Little Italy
Start your trip in Columbus Park, where you can see groups of locals playing Chinese card and dice games that you've never seen or heard of. Adam gets his haircuts for only $7 at the nearby Da Zhong barber, but be warned - he has been burned there before! After that, buy some fruit from the stands on Canal Street, or eat some kosher Chinese at Buddha Bodai. End the trip by walking up Mulberry Street into Little Italy and enjoying some coffee at a curbside cafe. Comienza tu recorrido en Columbus Park, donde podrás ver a locales jugando a las cartas y a los dados chinos. En este barrio, Adam se corta el pelo por tan solo $7 en una peluquería cercana a Da Zhong, pero cuidado, ¡ya ha salido trasquilado allí antes! provecha para comprar fruta fresca en los puestos de Canal Street o probar la comida china kosher en Buddha Bodai. Termina el paseo caminando por Mulberry Street hasta llegar a Little Italy y disfruta de este pedacito de Italia en pleno Nueva York.
Museums
When in New York, you can't miss the museums. Our personal recommendation for those new to New York would be The Met. The nearby Museum of the City of New York is also wonderful, as is the Natural History Museum across the park. Personal favorites off the beaten path include the Museum of the Moving Image in Astoria Queens, the Intrepid aircraft carrier, and the aforementioned Tenement Museum on the Lower East Side. Cuando estés en Nueva York no puedes perderte sus museos. Nuestro favorito es el Metropolitan Museum of Art, un lugar tan inmenso y fascinante que podrías pasar dos días recorriéndolo sin terminar de verlo todo. A su vez, os recomendamos el Natural History Museum que se encuentra en el lado oeste de Central Park. Si estáis buscando algo más fuera de lo común, os recomendamos el Museum of the Moving Image en Astoria (Queens), el Intrepid aircraft carrier y el Tenement Museum situado en el Lower East Side.
