The Proposal

5/8/2021

Ed planned a surprise getaway for our 2nd Anniversary. He booked a boutique hotel in Palm Springs complete with a pool, hot tub, and in-room spa (anyone who knows Meg can attest that this is the way to her heart). Meg had her suspicions that this could be an important weekend so she meticulously planned a photo-worthy wardrobe and had her nails done. Friday came and went, then a Saturday morning trip to the Annenberg gardens without any questions being popped. Saturday afternoon hit 100 degrees and required pool time. Sweaty and soaked in chlorine, Meg went in to check on Ed who had taken a break from the sun. Of course, that's the moment Ed decided to get down on his knees and propose. Soaking wet, in her suit with a beach towel around her Meg happily said yes! The moment couldn't have been a more perfect example of how Ed's spontaneity perfectly pushes Meg outside of her planner mode.

How we met...

Meg and Ed met on a dating app. She said she enjoyed as a meal a nice steak and a glass of Angel's Envy bourbon. Ed responded that Angel's Envy was good but there were so many better bourbons and other whiskeys out there. Ed suggested they meet at a whiskey bar in Toluca Lake so he could show her. And the rest is history, as they say.

The Ring

a gift from "Ed the First" to Doll

Our ring has a very special history and Meg is honored to hold a chapter. Ed's grandparents, Ed the first and Doll, married in August of 1946. Ed the first went to work as a salesman for The Daily Record / Record Printing Company. Historically, printers, as well as architects, wore bow ties so as to not be dragging their neck accouterments through their work. Since Ed the first was selling for a printer, he wore a bow-tie too. It was part of his sales pitch, so to speak. Sometime after Mark was born, probably in 1948 or maybe Valentine’s Day of 1949, Ed the first had a ring designed to look like a bow tie and gave it to Doll as a symbol of her motherhood. She wore it regularly. The ring has been passed down from Ed and Doll, to Mark and Deb, and now to Ed and Meg. In a beautiful coincidence, Meg's Ed has worn a bow tie every Thursday for decades. He never knew his favorite grandfather had a fondness for them as well. Thanks to Mark for sharing the family history!
