In the fall of 2017, Jean Carlo moved from Sydney, Nova Scotia to Ottawa, Ontario, to join an internship program with All Nations Church. JC worked closely with the others in the program, volunteering to help out in various cities and linked Church communities. Come the second week of March 2018, the interns were sent off for a week to serve New Life Church in Peterborough, Ontario. Their first evening there, the elders responsible for the group had offered JC and the others to join them for drinks and social time with their household. It just so happened that Abby was the daughter of these very elders. While everyone else was caught up in conversation together, Jean Carlo looked over, to see a bright-eyed, blonde girl descend from the staircase. JC and Abby both paused, gazing in each other's eyes, both feeling a flurry of butterflies and warmth. For a swift moment, it felt as though the world had stopped around them and all they could do was stare. They both felt a quiet voice whisper to them each 'this is the one'. When the world around them seemed to begin again, they became eager to get to know one another, spending a lot of time texting, calling and Abby volunteering (to her parents surprise) to help the interns. About 2 weeks after JC returned to Ottawa, Abby finally worked up the guts to sit her parents down to say so blatantly, "I've met the man that I'm going to marry." This probably was not the kind of conversation they thought they'd have with their 17 year old daughter. With lots of odds, including distance, stacked against them, Jean and Abby grew in their friendship over the phone for a year and 3 months. They officially began dating sunny June the 7th of 2019. Jean moved to Peterborough, September of 2019. The rest is history. "We have been through what feels like a long journey, yet this is merely just the start of it... This June is a new beginning that we are absolutely ecstatic to start off, better yet with you, our beloved guest."
