How We Met

Coming Full Circle

Noman and Abida were within a mile radius of each other without knowing each other for far too long! They grew up in the same neighborhood, played in the same park, overlapped at the same middle/high schools, and Abida is friends with Noman's sister, Neha. Abida had even been to their house for Neha's 16th birthday yet Noman & Abida never met! They followed each other to Austin and then San Francisco, but it wasn't until Neha's 30th birthday in their hometown that the inevitable happened. They finally met but barely talked - except for Noman mentioning he just moved to San Francisco and Abida saying she just moved out. A few months later, Noman slides into Abida's DMs to ask for San Francisco recommendations. They quickly bond over their shared love for food and nature, Trader Joe's runs, and the show Money Heist that they both started watching around the same time. These messages turn into lengthy conversations and they couldn't help but feel excited to talk to each other! Refusing to stay pen pals, Noman flies to NYC to spend the weekend with Abida where she was living at the time. The Sunday that Noman leaves New York, Abida wastes no time to book her flight to San Francisco to visit him next. You can guess the rest!

Our Proposal Story

𝑨𝒃𝒊𝒅𝒂'𝒔 𝒗𝒆𝒓𝒔𝒊𝒐𝒏 We had a family reunion in London June 2022 so Noman and I decided to plan an Italy trip around it. It was on a crunched timeline so I had every day planned to the tee. Even though it would be dreamy, I just knew he wouldn't propose in Italy. There was a 0% chance he would have the ring by then and even less of a chance he would find time in my jam-packed itinerary! As we know, I was wrong. It's June 19th. We wake up in this stunning castle in Val d'Orcia, in the heart of Tuscany. We had a vespa ride planned for the day, but first, a breakfast spread awaited us. I take my time eating (and taking pictures) of all the food and Noman patiently waits and says it's okay if we are little late for our vespa pickup. After many early days, it was so nice to take this one slow! We head to the coolest vintage motorcycle & car garage. Noman really wanted a vintage Vespa so that was the one we had booked, but he seems surprised that it's a manual. No problem, he's confident he can learn it quickly. He goes for a quick test run and comes back to pick me up! It seems a little scary at first but before we know it, we are on an adrenaline-high scooting our way through the stunning golden hills and winding roads of Tuscany. Best day ever! And it was about to get better. Of my list of must-stop viewpoints, Noman says Chapel Vitaleta is prettiest in the morning and I easily agree to start there. The chapel is beautiful and serene, sitting atop a hill. Besides a lady on the other side, it's just us. We take a selfie and Noman suggests I ask the lady to take a picture of us. Little did I know she would turn into our photographer! Before I can comprehend what's happening, Noman is down on one knee telling me he wants to spend the rest of his life with me (!!!) I can't remember anything else he says because I'm giddy with joy and love. We were 𝑒𝓃𝑔𝒶𝑔𝑒𝒹 and now riding through Tuscany on our little Vespa with plastered smiles the entire rest of the day. Really the best day ever! 𝑵𝒐𝒎𝒂𝒏'𝒔 𝒗𝒆𝒓𝒔𝒊𝒐𝒏 It's 8am in Tuscany and I'm freaking out because I'm about to propose to the love of my life in one hour and Abida is nowhere near ready! She's taking pictures of the entire breakfast spread and lollygagging around the castle grounds. I try to make subtle comments about us being late in hopes she doesn’t suspect anything! When we finally get to the motorcycle garage, I realize the white 1977 Vespa I booked online because it looked #aesthetic is actually a manual! I jokingly ask the owner to switch to an automatic (not actually joking though), but he says every Vespa is booked. Thankfully Abida is busy admiring the pretty cars while I figure out how to shift gears in the parking lot. After several minutes of jerking back and forth, I get the hang of it and pick up Abida acting like I have it all under control. We finally hit the road, a surreal experience driving through the winding sun-kissed countryside of beautiful Val D'Orcia. She's screaming how fun this is and how fast we're going. I look down and we're going 30mph, cars are overtaking us, but I let her have it. I'm feeling on top of the world for what’s about to happen next! I had mapped our stops for the day to make sure the first stop would be a gorgeous chapel built in the 1500s on top of a hill. I knew this was where I wanted to ask her to marry me! She hops off the Vespa and takes off my backpack she's been wearing. Thanks for carrying the ring, Abi! She starts to walk towards the chapel while I hurry to grab the ring from my backpack. We start to take some selfies (which is code for my secret photographer roaming around the hills to get in position) and the morning sun is hitting juuust right when I get down on one knee and ask Abida to marry me. She says YES and I'm over the moon. The rest is a happy blur y'all! Driving through the small towns of Tuscany afterwards is something we'll never forget.
