How We Met

01.21.2014

It all started in a store, H&M at the Milpitas Great Mall. Rebecca walked in for a job interview. As she made her way to the back of the store, she saw Kevin putting clothes away in the kids section. Rebecca said hi and smiled, then went on her way to the interview. Little did she know, Kevin said "I hope they hire her," under his breath to another coworker. A few months later, the store managers set up an intramural softball team for fun. Rebecca convinced Kevin to join the team. Every Thursday evening, they got to know each other on the softball field. Their friendship flourished, then on January 21, 2014 Kevin asked Rebecca to be his girlfriend.

The Proposal

As told by Kevin

A burst of emotion hit, and I just knew, almost 6 years of validation, happiness and fulfillment - I knew I was ready. The big question was how? My initial thought was to bring her back to where it all started: San Francisco Pier. But like all good things that are worthwhile, I ran into obstacles. Rain was on the forecast and I wanted to avoid replicating a scene from The Notebook. Instead of discouragement, I saw the rain as a good luck symbol that guided me to my second idea. I quickly worked with Mariel, Becca’s maid of honor, and within a week or so orchestrated a surprise engagement party full of decoration, food and most importantly family & friends. Nervous, but sure I started by celebrating Jan 21, 2019 at one of our favorite restaurants Alexander’s The Sea. Dinner was great, she looked beautiful, but nerves ran up and down my body for what was happening next. A surprise walk, I told her, was up next and to add to that I want her eyes to be shut for a brief period. I still remember the tune of the entrance song, the smiles and happy tears of our friends and family. Madden beautifully decorated & patiently waiting our arrival. I bent down on one knee. She opened her eyes. And in front of all our loved ones, I confessed my love, and out came “Will you Marry Me?”
