The Rose Event Center has been many things in its lifetime. It was built in 1922. At one point it was a garage for some of the first cars made in the U.S. (and you can still see the stall markers on the side of the wall). Then was transformed into an indoor swimming pool. The pool is under the dance floor and used for storage (we asked). After that it was a department store, and then a concert venue attached to the neighboring saloon. And now it’s a concert venue and event space.
Founded in 1859, It was originally called Golden City and was the first capital of the federally recognized Colorado Territory in 1862. The Jolly Rancher candy was created in golden by an ice cream shop to sell during the winter months. The Welcome to Golden sign was designed in 1948 by the same guy (Paul Reeves) who had just recently designed the first aluminum can for Coors.
