Things To Do

. We’re so excited for you to explore Kona and the Big Island while you’re here. This island captured our hearts many years ago. It’s where we each fell in love with Hawai‘i, and where we fell in love with each other. Having lived on both the Hilo and Kona sides, we’ve come to appreciate just how diverse and special this place is. If you find yourself driving over Saddle Road at night, we recommend stopping to stargaze, just like we did on our first date. We hope you enjoy exploring the island as much as we do.

Manta Ray Night Tours

Manta Ray Night Tours are one of the most unique experiences on the Big Island. Off the Kona coast, guests float in the ocean at night and watch manta rays glide beneath them as they feed on plankton attracted by underwater lights. No scuba experience is required - these are guided snorkeling tours with wetsuits, flotation devices, and experienced guides. While not for everyone due to snorkeling at night in open water, the tours are very safe and well-managed by local operators. It’s an unforgettable Kona experience that we have personally squealed in delight from enjoying, and one we highly recommend if you’re up for it.

Waikoloa Beaches

About 30–45 minutes north of Kona, known for beautiful white sand beaches and calm, swimmable coves. We love Mauna Kea Beach, Kua Bay, Hapuna and Makalawena.

Hawaiʻi Volcanoes National Park

A must-see featuring active volcano landscapes, lava tubes, and scenic drives through one of the world’s most unique national parks.

Hilo and Hamakua Waterfalls

Akaka, Rainbow, Boiling Pots, Waiale... just to name a few

Pololū and Waipiʻo

Stunning north shore viewpoints with dramatic cliffs and lush valleys.

Kona Farmers Markets

A great way to experience local life and flavors: Keauhou Farmers Market (Keauhou) Pure Kona Green Market (Captain Cook) South Kona Fruit Stand (Captain Cook) Kona Farmers Market (downtown Kailua-Kona) Aliʻi Gardens Marketplace (Kailua-Kona)
