What started as a simple wakeboarding lesson quickly turned into a series of unforgettable wipeouts, matching ankle injuries, and, eventually, a love story. Bear and Abby first met in the summer of 2024 when Abby enthusiastically decided to learn how to wakeboard behind Bear’s boat for the very first time. Although much of that first attempt was spent repeatedly face-planting into the water, Bear was her biggest supporter, offering constant encouragement, patience, and advice. Impressed by Abby's ability to laugh off every fall while sharing in his excitement, Bear invited her on a wakeboarding trip to a cable park in Fruita shortly afterward. Thanks to a couple of last-minute cancellations, what was supposed to be a group trip turned into a two-person adventure instead. Things escalated quickly. While attempting to round a corner, Abby took a legendary slam and sprained her ankle in spectacular fashion. Fortunately for everyone except Abby’s dignity, Bear captured the entire incident on camera. Thanks to Bear's impressive videography skills, the moment became an unforgettable reel that delivered endless laughs and “almost went viral.” In a twist of irony, Bear wiped out the very next day and sprained his ankle as well. Now hobbling around together with matching injuries, the two somehow managed to turn a simple wakeboarding trip into the beginning of something truly special. As the weeks passed and their ankles slowly healed, their friendship deepened and their connection grew stronger. Somewhere between the ankle braces, laughter and replayed wipeout videos, they fell in love.
