We met on a Christian dating app called Upward. Our first interaction was Vinny asking me out, straight up, no small talk or anything. I think this was a beautiful foreshadowing of our relationship. Being upfront with each other is very important to us and something that has carried us through the past year and a half. We both knew very early on that we had something special. We both felt that we had been missing something up to this point and we’d finally found that piece. Some of our favorite memories are the simplest ones. This past New Year’s we were both asked what our favorite memory was and we both talked about this simple date we had on the beach. After purchasing a bottle of wine from a local winery and a pizza from a shop nearby, we headed down to the beach. We sat and talked and enjoyed our meal, pretty much alone on the beach as it was slightly cold. I think having that moment to ourselves and just being fully present with each other is why that is such a cherished memory for us.
So if you know anything about Vinny, you know he can’t keep a secret. Needless to say, that didn’t change with the proposal. Leading up to the day, he was consistently giving me updates about the ring and when he was going to propose. It was right around Easter and I had been traveling. Saturday before Easter, I got back from my trip and headed over to his mom’s house. We then journeyed to St. Michael’s and I could tell he was a little nervous. We got out of the car and walked down to a beautiful gazebo overlooking the water. The walk from the car to the gazebo was interesting. I remembering rambling about something super random. I knew what was happening but I didn’t want to act like I knew so I just started talking. Despite the presence of a random woman enveloped in her phone and sitting right near the gazebo, Vinny told me he loved me and wanted to spend the rest of his life with me. He got down on one knee and asked me to marry him. Obviously, I said yes and the rest is history.
