Well, it wasn't quite a bar, more like an interfaith seminary in Southern California. A mutual friend of ours brought Adam to a barbeque in Claremont. Abbie remembers meeting Adam and thinking he was "quiet, reserved, perhaps even shy?" Adam was going to be starting at Claremont that upcoming Fall and was about to be living on the Pacific Crest Trail for seven weeks. After our very brief and unremarkable encounter at the barbeque that Spring, Adam ended up temporarily living in our friend's apartment porch for a few weeks, which happened to be across the hall from Abbie. One afternoon, Abbie hears a knock on her door. Who is it? It's Adam, with a huge tray of vegetarian lasagna in tow, as he somehow recalled learning that Abbie was a vegetarian from that barbeque the past Spring. That's how it started... we began hanging out after class more, studying together, drinking wine with Adam and his roommates while writing papers. We're not sure if we knew it then, but, sparks were flying and a match was being made! After almost eight years of snowboarding, camping trips, adventures around the Pacific Northwest, beer tastings, live shows, and so many other special memories growing as individuals and together as a couple, we'd love nothing more than to celebrate our love with the people who mean the most to us!
We will be having a small(ish) celebration with our family and close friends in Troutdale (Portland area) on November 21, 2021. There’s quite a bit of significance for us to get married during this time - we’ll have just marked eight years of partnership, we’ll both be 32 years old, and Fall is our favorite season here in the Pacific Northwest. We fully recognize that our desire to host a more intimate wedding in Oregon and inviting the majority of our guests to travel out here during the (hopefully) end of a global pandemic, is not necessarily convenient or preferred for many of you. We want you to know that your health and safety is of utmost importance to us and we care about you! At the same time, we hope that those of you who are local to our hometowns in Virginia and Missouri will be able to celebrate with us over the summer (find more information about those gatherings on the Schedule tab)! We are so grateful to have such wonderful friends and family, we want to share our love and joy with you all, and your witness to our commitment as life partners is what our wedding celebrations are all about. Please join us as you are comfortable and able, your presence is a gift to us <3
