Although extremely touristy and the town is very tacky (think casinos, arcades, haunted houses, and big chain restaurants), it's well worth a look if you've never seen the Falls in all their glory. Our first weekend as a couple away took us out on the Hornblower Cruise, which was the perfect way to see the Falls up close. Also impressive from the viewing area, and the revolving tower (and bar) nearby. For those looking to keep the party going, the Falls area goes off at night, so a good place to head out to if NOTL gets a bit sleepy!
Spend time in town enjoying the quaint historic buildings, great culinary scene, and nice old pubs. Queen St is the main street and is an easy stroll up and down to take it all in. As most will be staying there, we'll see a lot of each other out and about throughout the weekend we're sure.
Get out and explore the MANY wineries around town. There are tasting tours you can organize, otherwise what we love is grabbing some bikes and a map and riding between wineries close to town. This is one of the few places in the world that produces ice wine too, so make sure you sample some of this super sweet wine. There are a few great breweries around too. Some of our favourite places are Stratus, Two Sisters (great food too), Wayne Gretzky, Trius, Peller Estates, Jackson Triggs, Silversmith Brewing, Oast House Brewery... you get the gist - there are HEAPS!
For anyone who is up to it, the bike ride between NOTL & the Falls along the Niagara Parkway is one of the most beautiful bike rides you can do! It winds along the river with clear views across to NY the whole way, past wineries, historic homes, farms, gardens, golf courses and more. If you want to ride one way, you could also be dropped in Niagara Falls and ride back which is the easier option as there's a big hill that runs down a forest area halfway along, and going Falls-NOTL will let you ride down it vs up going the other way.
Anyone looking for some retail therapy while they're in the area, the Outlets nearby are some of the best we've been to in Canada. You'll find all big labels deeply discounted!
