FAQs and Where to Eat & Drink

Question

How do I get to Sintra?

Answer

We recommend taking a taxi, Uber, or Bolt (Portugal's version of Uber). There is no direct train or shuttle from the airport to Sintra.

Question

How far away is Sintra from Lisbon?

Answer

Sintra is ~25 miles and about 30 minutes from the Lisbon Airport (Humberto Delgado Airport). However, we recommend accounting for some extra travel time as many roads in Sintra are one way roads, and slow moving traffic can result in longer travel times. When you land in Lisbon, we suggest using a taxi or an Uber or Bolt (ride sharing apps) to travel to Sintra.

Question

How do I get to Quinta da Bella Vista (QBV), the wedding venue?

Answer

For all scheduled events, we will be providing roundtrip transportation from Sintra's city center. However, everyone is always welcome to come and enjoy QBV in their down time, if you would like. QBV's address is: R. Barbosa du Bocage 60, 2710-517 Sintra, Portugal. See QBV's website for specific driving instructions: https://www.quintadabellavista.com/drive QBV’s gate code for the weekend will be *881188# (from outside) and *028820# (from inside)

Question

What is the best way to take out euros once arriving in Portugal?

Answer

We recommend using Multibanco ATMs. These are Portugal’s national interbank ATM network, known for being safe, reliable, and widely available throughout the city. They typically do not charge local ATM fees, although your home bank may apply its own. You'll find Multibanco ATMs in most metro stations, shopping areas, and bank branches. Avoid Euronet ATMs. While these are conveniently located, especially at the airport, they are known for high fees, unfavorable exchange rates, and often prompt users to accept Dynamic Currency Conversion (DCC), which usually results in a poor rate. We recommend declining DCC if prompted and opting to be charged in euros.

Question

Do I need to rent a car?

Answer

You do not need to rent a car and we actually suggest against it. We recommend you use either Uber or Bolt (Portugal's other ride share app), which will work in both Sintra and Lisbon.

Question

Is there parking at the wedding venue?

Answer

If you choose to rent a car, note there is no parking available at the venue. We are coordinating group transportation options to/from the venue as well.

Question

What is the dress code for the wedding?

Answer

For the ceremony and reception, the dress code will be black tie. For men, a tuxedo is preferred--but if you don't have a tuxedo, a black suit also works. For the ladies, a formal floor length gown (color is encouraged!)--block heels or wedges are also recommended as the ceremony and cocktail hour will take place outside. The ceremony will be followed by an extended cocktail hour and reception. All events will be hosted on-site.

Question

What will the weather be like?

Answer

The weather in Sintra in mid-September is pleasant and mild, with average temperatures falling between 55-75 degrees Fahrenheit. As it is a transition period from the warmer summer months to the fall season, evenings tend to be cooler so we advise packing accordingly with options to layer.

Question

What are some of your favorite places to eat and drink in Sintra?

Answer

- Piriquita Cafe (pastries and coffee) - COMO, Restaurante Sabores Do Mercado, or Romaria De Baco (upscale options) - Bar Do Fundo: chic restaurant on the water with a beautiful view about 20 minutes outside Sintra; reservations recommended - Moinho Don Quixote: our favorite! great bar/restaurant up on a hill overlooking the water; about 20 minutes outside of Sintra - Azenhas do Mar beach (beach bar) - Patio a Esquina or Cafe Saudade (casual) - Nau Palatina - Tacho Real- known for their seafood! - Bar Fonte da Pipa (casual bar with great drinks and snacks)
