They met the way many New Yorkers do these days — through the dating app Bumble. Maddy swiped right on Aaron because he had a great smile, adventurous photos, and had thoughtful and interesting responses to the prompts. Aaron paused on Maddy's profile, there was something warm and caring in her eyes, she had a happy smile, and it was the photo of her apple picking that really sealed the deal — an easy swipe right. On Bumble, the girl has to make the first move, so Maddy asked Aaron about his affinity for Dax Sheperd as her opening line. Aaron pleasantly surprised Maddy by knowing who Phoebe Waller-Bridge is and a date was quickly set. They met on October 9th, 2019 at a cocktail bar in Crown Heights equidistant from their apartments called Hunky Dory (which sadly no longer exists). They sat in the front window and talked about their lives, their passion for art and design, and their love of travel, and somehow Aaron convinced Maddy to go to a secondary location to try a fried spam dessert bao bun. They have been almost inseparable ever since!
