They were randomly matched against each other on a Facebook game in 2016, called Word Scramble (now called Boggle). They played for months and got really competitive! There was an available chat feature on the game app. Eventually, they became Facebook friends, and were penpals for years until the pandemic hit. In May 2020, James had randomly invited his family (and Vanessa) to start doing daily push up challenges since everybody was home during quarantine. That was when the relationship really took off! A silly challenge. Before you know it, James is on a plane flying 9,026 miles away to a country he’s never been before, Malaysia. And not long after that, Vanessa is on a plane flying 9,026 miles away to a country she’s never been before, America. January 2024, James got down on one knee, and asked Vanessa to be his wife.
