3 mile trail - half is on the ocean dunes and half is covered by maritime forest. You can also visit the Fort itself, which was used in the Civil War. Side note - no railings in the Fort so be very careful!
Cape Lookout is the southern point of the Core Banks (one of the natural barrier islands to NC). You can access it via ferry out of Beaufort or Harkers Island. You can pre-book ATVs for a half or full day, or just sit and enjoy the beach.

We encourage you to check out Beaufort if you have the time! It is historical, quaint, with a pirate culture (some residents consider themselves pirates; perhaps thanks to Blackbeard having had a home here). The main street (Front Street) lines Taylor’s Creek which has a ton of yacht and boat traffic. You may also see wild horses on the banks. There’s lots of shops, restaurants, and bars to spend your time in. Our favorites: Rhum Bar at Front Street Grill fav dinner spot and overlooks Taylor's Creek Fishtowne Brew House Moonrakers great view on the rooftop overlooking Taylor's Creek Cru Wine Bar good coffee in the AM & wine/beer in the PM Backstreet Pub Old Burying Ground historic cemetery. no food or drink here to be clear!
