A wise man once said: “If you have someone you think is the one, take them and travel around the world. Buy a plane ticket for the two of you to travel all over the world, to places that are hard to reach and hard to get out of. And when you land at JFK and you're still in love with that person, get married.” - Bill Murray. Our first international trip together was to Mexico, and frolicking through the streets of San Miguel de Allende was an unforgettable experience! We didn't land at JFK but we did land at SFO, and we are still very much in love! Ever since that trip, San Miguel de Allende has been a special place to us and celebrating our marriage there with friends and family would mean a lot to us!
The U.S. government generally processes passport applications between four to six weeks after you've sent off your details, including mailing times. If possible, apply for your passport in low seasons for travel, like fall and mid-winter. The worst time of year to apply is during March or April when most people are making summer vacation plans and applying for passports. Summer applications can have delayed processing times, too. In some cases you can rush your passport application for an extra fee.
As a general rule of thumb, you should be up to date on routine vaccinations while traveling to any destination. There are no mandatory vaccinations in order to enter Mexico; however, the CDC recommends having Hepatitis A and Typhoid vaccines. We also recommend you get vaccinated for COVID-19. Lastly, if you're planning on hooking up with any of our friends, we recommend you get immunized against HPV, just sayin'!
Nope. But seriously, San Miguel de Allende is a very safe place; however, it's always important to use common sense when you are traveling anywhere, whether in the US or internationally. We will endeavor to assist in securing taxis following the wedding reception so you won't have to worry about walking back to your hotel or rental house late at night (cobblestone streets + fancy shoes + tequila typically don't mix well).
San Miguel de Allende is a very walkable town and most things are a 5-15 minute walk away. If your feet get tired you can always take a taxi—they are safe and affordable in town. If you take a taxi, make sure you use a green or white one (these are official). Also make sure to agree on a rate to your destination before accepting the ride. A ride within the city should cost less than 100 pesos. If you are quoted higher, just ask if they will take less. Uber is also available in San Miguel de Allende.
Daily high temperatures are around 77°F, rarely falling below 72°F or exceeding 82°F. Daily low temperatures are around 55°F, rarely falling below 49°F or exceeding 60°F. So bring layers and sunscreen!
We do NOT recommend renting a car. The narrow and hilly cobblestone streets are a large part of San Miguel's charm, and it would be difficult to drive there. Check out the information on private transportation to and from the airport. Once you're in the city it is extremely walkable, but please pack comfortable shoes to navigate the hilly cobblestone streets! It's also very easy to get a taxi if your feet need a break.
As with other Mexico destinations, avoid tap water unless it has been filtered. You can check with your hotel or rental house to ensure that your tap water is filtered. Ice and water served at most restaurants are typically purified but when it doubt, order bottled water! Bottled water is widely available and short term visitors are advised to use it to brush their teeth, too. DON'T FORGET to drink water! San Miguel de Allende is high in elevation so it's important to stay hydrated!
We love your kids—we really do! But here's the thing: the venue has a house rule of no children between 2 and 12. However, we have managed to get a waiver for 6 children in that age range to attend. Please contact us to find out if we can accommodate your children.
If your invitation says “and Guest,” then yes; if not, we're really sorry but the venue is limited to 50 guests. There are even some married couples of whom we've only invited the half we like better (j/k!). You should actually feel really lucky we're letting you attend in person...some people only received an invitation to view the wedding via FaceTime (oh, you have an Android? That's awkward...).
We booked a fleet of luxury SUVs to facilitate transp...oh wait, no we didn't. Sorry! ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ Fine, we will try and figure out some way to get you to San Miguel de Allende safely. We will contact each guest individually to coordinate transportation options.
Please navigate to the Schedule page of our website, where each event lists its dress code.
We don’t know — are we supposed to say that? We’ve never heard that before. Sure, maybe there’s no law saying you have to give us a gift, but there’s also no law saying we have to give you a seat for dinner...just kidding! But seriously, we just want you to celebrate with us, so please no gifts! But if you insist, we do have a honeypot registry on our website.
We totally understand...but, yes, we will probably hate you if you don't come. Besides, we know the alternative for you is to binge-watch an obscene amount of Netflix/Hulu/Amazon shows. So do something different and come celebrate with us!
