FAQs about beach in Los Angeles, CA

For a standard 100-guest wedding in Los Angeles, you're looking at a total budget of $38,400 – $57,500, according to the Zola Wedding Cost Index. Beach venues themselves typically start from $5,000 to $20,000, with a median starting price of $8,000 based on Zola marketplace data.

Venues account for about 17% of your total wedding budget. Beyond the venue rental, plan to allocate funds across these key categories:

  • Catering: $6,678
  • Florists: $6,121
  • Bar Services: $5,342

Your specific venue cost will depend on guest count, day of the week, and season. Smaller intimate weddings (50 guests) run $23,000 – $34,600 total, while larger celebrations (200 guests) reach $65,600 – $98,300.

Los Angeles beach venues range from intimate gatherings to large destination celebrations, based on Zola marketplace data.

Small venues accommodating 50 guests or fewer offer a personal, exclusive feel—ideal if you're planning a $23,000 – $34,600 wedding. These tend to start from around $12,820.

Medium venues holding 51–150 guests are the sweet spot for many couples and typically start from $9,462. This capacity tier aligns well with the standard 100-guest benchmark ($38,400 – $57,500 total budget) and offers flexibility for mixed guest lists.

Large venues with capacity for 150+ guests are abundant in the Los Angeles area, starting from $14,250. These work best for 200-guest weddings ($65,600 – $98,300) or larger celebrations of 250–300 guests. Many feature multiple ceremony and reception areas, giving you design freedom along the Pacific coastline.

The neighborhoods closest to Downtown's urban center with beach access are Santa Monica and Redondo Beach, both offering distinct seaside wedding experiences.

Santa Monica blends iconic California coastline with accessible urban amenities—perfect for couples wanting walkable neighborhoods and proximity to restaurants and hotels. Redondo Beach, just south, features a working harbor atmosphere with calmer waters and charming village vibes.

In Redondo Beach, the Redondo Beach Historic Library is rated 5.0/5 and starts at $5,000. One couple praised its "large and open" space, ideal for flexible layouts. Nearby, the Sonesta Redondo Beach & Marina (5.0/5, from $5,000) offers waterfront views with dedicated event management support that guests consistently highlight.

Both neighborhoods provide strong beach venue options without the farther drive to Malibu or Santa Monica's crowds.

The highest-rated beach venues on Zola stand out for exceptional service and scenic backdrops:

The Reef On The Water (rated 5.0/5, starting at $3,000) is the most budget-friendly option without compromising quality. One guest raved: "Maria was so sweet and so helpful throughout the entire process! Telling them what you want is super easy, and they..." make it happen seamlessly.

Redondo Beach Historic Library (5.0/5, from $5,000) offers expansive, flexible space. A couple noted: "The space is large and open," making it easy to customize your celebration.

Sonesta Redondo Beach & Marina (5.0/5, from $5,000) shines for partner support. A bride shared: "I loved working with Robin at the Sonesta Hotel. She was an excellent event manager who cared for all our needs."

All three deliver exceptional value and guest experiences.

Beach weddings in Los Angeles require thoughtful logistics beyond aesthetic vision. Here's what to prioritize:

Permits and timing: Check your specific venue's permit requirements—Malibu, Santa Monica, and public beaches have varying restrictions. Book 6–9 months ahead, especially for peak months (April–May, September–October) when weather is reliably clear and guest travel is easier.

Weather and backup plans: Los Angeles rarely sees rain, but June fog can impact morning ceremonies near the coast. Plan indoor backup space through your venue or negotiate flexibility. Strong afternoon winds are common along the Pacific—consider tent rentals and weighted decor even for outdoor setups.

Sand and logistics: Arrange shuttle service from parking to beach access. Provide guests clear dress codes (heels sink in sand; suggest flats or going barefoot). Coordinate with your caterer on beach-specific challenges like salt spray affecting food presentation—many venues handle this expertly.

Vendor coordination: Confirm florists and photographers have beach wedding experience; salt and sand require protective prep. Your venue team (especially at highly-rated spots like Sonesta or The Reef) can guide vendor requirements.

Season strategy: Fall and spring offer the best balance of calm waters, mild temperatures, and lower humidity.

The ideal beach wedding season typically falls between late spring and early fall (May through September), when you'll have the most reliable sunny days and warmest water temperatures. However, this varies by region—coastal areas in the South may have longer suitable seasons, while northern beaches have shorter windows.

For weather contingency planning, consider these essential steps:

  • Book a venue with indoor backup space or a nearby shelter option. Many beach venues offer covered pavilions or nearby indoor facilities for unexpected rain.
  • Choose a date during your region's driest months to minimize storm risk, though always have a backup plan.
  • Secure quality rentals like tents or canopies—these are investment-worthy and provide both weather protection and elegant ambiance.
  • Plan for wind by securing décor, linens, and floral arrangements with weights or anchors.
  • Schedule your ceremony for early morning or late afternoon to avoid peak midday heat and intense sun exposure.
  • Communicate weather policies with your venue upfront, including whether deposits are refundable if severe weather forces rescheduling.

According to Zola marketplace data, beach venues have a median starting price of $5,000, so invest time in understanding each venue's specific weather accommodations and insurance coverage before booking.

According to the Zola Wedding Cost Index, a 100-guest wedding in Los Angeles costs between $38,400 and $57,500—significantly higher than the national median of $25,000. This reflects LA's premium venue, catering, and vendor landscape.

Here's where your budget typically goes:

  • Venues: $8,347 (17% of total)
  • Catering: $6,678
  • Florists: $6,121
  • Bar services: $5,342
  • Photography: $3,728
  • Videography: $3,372
  • Planning services: $3,784

Venue and catering together represent about 41% of your total spend. If you're planning for fewer guests, expect $23,000–$34,600 for 50 people; for 150 guests, budget $52,700–$79,100.

Your guest count directly affects venue selection and overall budget. Based on typical Los Angeles wedding costs, here's what to expect:

  • 50 guests: $23,000–$34,600 total | venues from $4,000+
  • 100 guests: $38,400–$57,500 total | venues from $5,800+
  • 150 guests: $52,700–$79,100 total
  • 200 guests: $65,600–$98,300 total
  • 250–300 guests: $78,400–$136,800 total

Based on Zola marketplace data, Los Angeles venues range from $4,000 to $11,500+. Smaller, intimate venues (50–75 guests) work well in West Hollywood or Silver Lake lofts. Mid-size spaces (100–150 guests) are plentiful in Pasadena and Santa Monica. Larger celebrations benefit from properties with expansive grounds, like those near Griffith Park or along the Malibu coastline. Consider your headcount early—it determines whether you need an indoor, outdoor, or hybrid space.
