Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy is a life threatening disorder that affects Anna's precious, little nephew Andrew Plasman. DMD is is the most common fatal genetic disorder diagnosed in childhood, affecting approximately one in every 5,000 live male births each year. It's caused by the absence of dystrophin, a protein that helps keep muscles intact. The progressive muscle weakness leads to serious medical problems, particularly issues relating to the heart and lungs. People with Duchenne typically live into their late twenties. BUT recently there have been many advances in the field keeping us hopeful for a long awaited cure. Please join me in helping PPMD continue to help advance research, be a successful advocate, make improvements to caring for families, and connecting the community to support and encourage one another.
