Our primary motivation for this honeymoon was the thought of seeing Africa's diverse collection of wildlife. Near Kenya's western border with Tanzania, the Maasai Mara National Reserve serves as a full immersion into the world of the Big 5 animals of Africa (lion, leopard, rhinoceros, elephant, and buffalo). In addition, the Reserve hosts The Great Wildebeest Migration every July through October.

The Amboseli National Park is well-known for being the best place in the world to get close to elephants (one of Steven's favorite animals) in their national habitat and hosts stunning views of Mount Kilimanjaro, the highest free-standing mountain in the world.

Our primary motivation for this honeymoon was the thought of seeing Africa's diverse collection of wildlife. Self-described as a "bird lover's hub", Lake Nakuru National Park is famous for its colorful colonies of flamingos that live on the shores of the park. Though birds might be its chief selling point, the park is also a haven for over 100 black and white rhinos and the Rothschild's giraffe, both endangered species.

To broaden our knowledge of different cultures, we have arranged for a visit to a local Maasai village near the Reserve. As part of our visit, we will tour traditional Maasai homes (Manyattas), engage in cultural activities like beadwork and spear-throwing, enjoy a traditional Masai meal, and participate in interactive experiences such as learning traditional songs and dances, trying on Masai clothing and jewelry, and shopping for handmade crafts and souvenirs at local markets or village shops.

Anyone who knows us knows that we like to use our vacations to explore new areas of the world and broaden our horizons. Near the end of our adventure in Africa, we have blocked some time to visit Wasini Island, just south of the port city of Shimoni. Along with the gorgeous views of the island, we are looking forward to swimming with dolphins, enjoying a traditional Swahili breakfast, and visiting the lush Coral Gardens!

Part of our adventure will land us at Diani Beach along the southern coastline of Kenya. We are hoping to organize a couple's massage at one of the resorts on the beach. After several days of strenuous hikes and game drives through the African grasslands, it'll be a nice change of pace!

During our time in Amboseli National Park, we are thinking about hiking the trails of Mount Kilimanjaro, a dormant volcano and the highest free-standing mountain in the world. Obviously, we aren't planning to summit the mountain ... or are we?

Tucked away in the majestic Maasai Mara National Reserve, we have arranged for a memorable dining experience set under the starry night sky accompanied by the sounds of nature.

On the banks of the Mara River, we will be met by a traditionally clad Maasai warrior who will lead us to where countless hippos wallow. Once we reach a clearing, we will be offered a glass of chilled sparkling wine or fresh juice before being shown to our table, which is located in a shady grove immediately alongside the hippo pool.

On the last night of our honeymoon, we will dining at Ali Barbour's Cave Restaurant - a beautiful restaurant on Diani Beach in Kenya!
