The Kinabatangan River runs for the coast in eastern Sabah into the inland Borneo rainforest. We're hoping to take a boat up river for a few days exploring the jungle looking for pygmy elephants, probiscus monkeys and wild orangutans.

Sigiriya is an amazing rock outcrop that contains the ruins of an ancient civilisation, thought to be once the epicentre of the short-lived kingdom of Kassapa. We'll have to climb a series of vertiginous staircases attached to sheer walls to reach the top but it should be worth it!
