She may be the picture of happiness now--but Gracie's life hasn't always been full of love, sunshine & rainbows.
It all began in Kentucky (cue flashback music)....
Gracie was just a puppy back then (a super adorable Dalmatian-Whippet puppy). Her previous owners kept her locked-up in a wooden shack comprised of rotting plywood and nails.
As if that wasn't bad enough, they subjected her to all forms of abuse, including:
--physical harm;
--food & water deprivation (the Vet believes she caught & ate rodents during this time, which led to further health problems);
--denying her time outside of her "shack of despair" to do her business (use the canine ladies' room);
--leaving her outside during thunderstorms, snowstorms, etc.
The list could go on, but we think you get the idea (i.e., her previous owners were NOT cool).
Thankfully, a neighbor who had witnessed the abuse, called Animal Control, & soon Gracie was on her way to Maryland with a Dalmatian rescue group. She stayed with foster parents to recover & learn proper social skills, while over 100 people applied to adopt her.
After a background check, home visit, interview with my previous dog's Vet, & a supervised in-person visit with Gracie, I was thrilled to hear I was selected to be her new pet parent.
That was about 6 years ago--& while Gracie is still terrified of lots of things, she has come a long way, and is now the happy, healthy, playful & mischievous little dog she was meant to be.
We can think of nothing better than giving her a home with a safe, fenced yard where she can run and play freely with her new friends Teddy, Buttercup, Kit & Dewey.
