A quick subway ride from Manhattan affords you the feeling of being thousands of miles from home. The streets of Jackson Heights are lined with some of the best Indian street foods, sweet shops, restaurants, grocery stores, and shops filled with vibrant fabrics and yellow gold.

Chef-Instructor Jennifer Clair will guide you through her favorite food and grocery shops while sampling foods all along the way. We??ll visit 2 chaat shops and sample different kinds of this spectacular Indian snack food. We??ll graze the brightly-colored offerings at an Indian sweet shop and sample some of the best gulab jamun and rasmalai in the city. Along the way, we??ll be sure to keep awake with cups of chai (spiced tea) while sampling a variety of freshly baked dosas.

After the tour you will have the confidence to walk into any Indian restaurant or snack shop and order things you never knew you could.

The tour will begin and end at the excellent Indian grocery, Apna Bazar. We??ll wander through all the aisles and demystify the different kinds of rice, spices, fresh vegetables, legumes, breads, cookware, and condiments available. After the tour, you will have a chance to fill your shopping bags before heading home.
