Chickenshed is an inclusive theater company that began in the UK, for children with and without disabilities to immerse themselves in a supportive community which values creativity, kindness, and self-expression. My twin brother Mikey and I were part of Chickenshed for 6 years when we were living in London! There haven’t always been opportunities for activities that we could do together, and so we loved getting to be on stage together. Chickenshed NYC is the first branch which opened in the US in 2020. Their mission is to make their programs available to all kids, no matter their financial circumstances. My aunt, Shamim Chowdhury, started the first school for children with disabilities in Dhaka, Bangladesh, in 2004. This was the first resource of its kind, and has grown in size with now 160 children enrolled. Richie and I visited the school recently during our trip to Dhaka in June 2022, and had so much fun meeting students and teachers. There were many incredible resources built into their schedule, such as occupational, speech, and physical therapy, sensory based activities, and music and educational lessons. The school is now starting a vocational-focused program so that older children that have graduated from A Beautiful Mind school can learn skills in order to be employed. Your donation will go towards tuition for older students to be able to join the vocational program even after their graduation, and have opportunities to succeed in their greater community that they would not otherwise have access to.- Razina
