We are thrilled to have this opportunity to solicit donations to our favorite charities in lieu of traditional gifts or cash transfers. Meg and I feel really lucky to have had such incredible supports in our lives and feel our wedding is a great way to share this kindness with those who are less fortunate. The programs we've chosen are both expanding quickly and take great advantage from donation dollars which will help them grow faster. Canopy Nepal some may recognize from Meg's travels in February, 2025, is a program expanding educational opportunities to poor Nepali youth at high-risk for drop-out. Through her work with some of the institutions founders, she has been able to foster their effort to expand internationally. New incentives, on the other hand, is one of GiveWell's top charities and is growing rapidly to reach the massive gap in vaccination rates in Nigeria. Both charities meet extremely high standards of research evidence, cost-effectiveness, and transparency.

In Nepal, only 27% of the enrolled students complete secondary education. To fill this gap, Canopy Nepal ensures students have access to holistic scholarships, interactive learning, and creative storytelling programs allowing students to stay in school, excel academically, and gain the skills they need for meaningful careers. This not only increases graduation rates and job readiness but also breaks cycles of poverty, strengthens schools, and drives long-term economic and social progress.

New Incentives runs a conditional cash transfer program in northern Nigeria, a remote, poor region with one of the lowest childhood vaccination rates in the world. The program aims to increase uptake of routine vaccinations through small cash incentives (worth approximately $9.50 in total). Offering a monetarily small, yet significant, incentive has been proven through a randomized evaluation to provide enough of a “nudge” to double the percentage of infants who get fully vaccinated.

A single capsule of vitamin A given to children twice a year for the first five years of their lives can save their sight and lives. In the regions served by Hellen Keller International, vitamin A supplementation (VAS) likely results in a 3-10% reduction in child mortality. Additionally, VAS has several long-term quality of life benefits including better vision and less illness (ex. diarrhea, measles). This charity is massively cost-effective, though efficacy of VAS is somewhat uncertain.
