Lima's food scene goes way beyond the fine dining — the street food alone is extraordinary. Ceviche, lomo saltado, anticuchos, causa, and pisco sours are on the menu as we explore the city's neighborhoods and markets on our first full day as a married couple.

Huacachina is the only natural desert oasis in South America — a tiny lagoon surrounded by towering sand dunes in the middle of the Peruvian desert. We are staying at the Senoma Hotel, the best adults-only boutique hotel right on the oasis. After a day of dune buggies and sandboarding we cannot wait to collapse into their pool.

This is the most romantic hotel on our entire honeymoon. Las Casitas is a collection of 20 private casitas nestled in the Colca Valley, each with its own fireplace, heated plunge pool, and breathtaking views of one of the deepest canyons on earth. Alpacas wander the grounds, meals come from the hotel's own organic garden, and the only sound is the wind through the Andes. We will be watching condors soar overhead from our private terrace. This is our dream honeymoon night.

The Colca Canyon is twice as deep as the Grand Canyon and home to wild Andean condors — the largest flying birds on earth with wingspans up to ten feet. We will hike to the Cruz del Condor viewpoint at dawn to watch them rise on the morning thermals at eye level. It is one of the most awe-inspiring natural experiences in all of South America.

Getting to the Amazon requires a flight from Arequipa to Puerto Maldonado, the gateway to the Tambopata Reserve. Your contribution covers our flights into the jungle so we can begin one of the most extraordinary parts of the honeymoon — three days completely off the grid in the most biodiverse place on earth.

Inkaterra Reserva Amazonica is one of the most celebrated jungle lodges in Peru, set on the banks of the Madre de Dios River deep in the Tambopata Reserve. We will be staying in elevated bungalows surrounded by the jungle canopy, falling asleep to the sounds of the rainforest, and waking up to hummingbirds and howler monkeys. Three days completely unplugged from the world and completely present with each other.

The Amazon is not just a place — it is a living, breathing world unto itself. We will canoe through oxbow lakes searching for giant river otters and pink river dolphins, hike through the forest looking for sloths and monkeys, and watch hundreds of scarlet macaws descend on a clay lick at dawn. Casa Clara is an 18th century colonial manor house on the elegant Plaza Nazarenas in the heart of Cusco, with only eight uniquely designed suites. Stone arches, artisanal decor, preserved Inca ceramics, and a cloistered courtyard where homemade breakfast is served each morning under bougainvillea. This is our Cusco home base and one of the most intimate hotels in all of Peru. Tonight we arrive at 11,152 feet and let altitude acclimatization begin.

The Mountain View Experience in Maras is one of the most unique stays in all of Peru — six sustainable A-frame eco-cabins in the Sacred Valley with panoramic views of the snow-capped Andes mountains. Our cabin comes with a private hot tub where alpacas and llamas wander up to visit us while we soak. The train from Ollantaytambo to Aguas Calientes is one of the most beautiful rail journeys in the world — winding through cloud forest, past rushing rivers, and into the heart of the Andes. This is how you arrive at Machu Picchu the right way, and your contribution covers our round trip passage on one of the most iconic train rides on earth.

Inkaterra Machu Picchu Pueblo Hotel is unlike any other hotel in Peru. Huayna Picchu is the dramatic peak you see in every iconic Machu Picchu photo — and we are climbing it. The hike is steep and thrilling with narrow stone steps and jaw-dropping views straight down into the citadel below. Rainbow Mountain — Vinicunca — is one of the most surreal landscapes on earth. Layered mineral colors stripe the mountainside at 17,000 feet while wild alpaca and llama herds graze all around us. We depart Cusco at 4am, hike 4 miles round trip through the high Andes, and stand on top of something that looks like it belongs on another planet. Your contribution makes this 4am adventure happen.

One of our favorite parts of travel is learning to cook the food we fall in love with on the road. A Cusco cooking class teaches us to make ceviche, lomo saltado, and a proper pisco sour from scratch with a local chef. We are bringing these recipes home with us.

The Sacsayhuaman fortress ruins sit above the city with panoramic views and some of the most impressive Inca stonework anywhere in Peru. Below in the San Blas neighborhood, artisan workshops, galleries, and coffee shops fill a labyrinth of cobblestone alleys. Your contribution covers our entrance fees and guides for our final full day in Cusco.

The Ruta del Sol is the scenic overland route from Cusco to Puno along the Andean Highway, with guided stops at traditional highland villages, Inca ruins, and sweeping mountain viewpoints along the way. About ten hours but genuinely beautiful — a fitting final journey through the Andes.

This is how we end our honeymoon — sleeping on a floating reed island in the middle of the world's highest navigable lake at 12,507 feet. Titicaca Lodge is built from the same totora reeds as the Uros islands themselves, with luxurious suites, stunning lake views from every window, and an atmosphere so peaceful and otherworldly that we are not sure we will ever want to leave. There is nowhere else on earth quite like this, and there is no better way to end the most incredible trip of our lives.

We are starting our honeymoon in Lima, one of the world's great food cities, and we will be staying at Atemporal by Andean — a beautifully restored 1940s colonial mansion in Miraflores with only six rooms. Think candlelit courtyards, handcrafted Peruvian details, and waking up steps from the Pacific Ocean cliffs. This is where our adventure begins.

Lima is home to some of the best restaurants on the planet and we have our eyes on Central or Maido — both consistently ranked in the world's top ten. Getting from Lima down the coast to Paracas is our first big move of the trip. Your contribution covers our transport so we can get to the desert coast and start one of the most surreal stretches of the honeymoon.

Often called Peru's Galapagos, the Ballestas Islands are home to thousands of sea lions, Humboldt penguins, and seabirds just off the Paracas coast. A boat tour takes us around the islands for up close wildlife encounters — one of the most unique experiences of the whole trip.

This is one of those experiences that sounds insane until you are actually doing it — a dune buggy tearing across massive desert dunes at sunset, then sandboarding down the slopes with the oasis below you. Pure adrenaline with one of the most beautiful backdrops on earth.

Arequipa is called the White City for its stunning colonial architecture built entirely from white volcanic sillar stone, and Cirqa is the most extraordinary hotel in the city. Set inside a restored 16th century monastery just steps from the Plaza de Armas, with only eleven rooms, fire pit patios, and a refined restaurant. Staying here feels like stepping back in time while living in complete luxury. This is our most special city hotel of the entire trip.

The Santa Catalina Monastery is one of Peru's most beautiful sites — a city within a city, built in 1579 and still active today. We will explore it with a knowledgeable guide before wandering the white stone streets, trying the local dishes of rocoto relleno and chupe de camarones, and falling in love with the most beautiful city in Peru.

The Sacred Valley of the Incas is extraordinary — Pisac market on Saturday with its maze of artisan stalls and towering ruins, the massive Ollantaytambo fortress terraced into the mountainside, the Maras Salt Mines with thousands of hand-harvested evaporative pools, and the mysterious circular Moray agricultural terraces. A full day with a knowledgeable guide brings all of it to life.

After two days of hiking at altitude, there is nothing better in the world than soaking in the natural thermal hot springs of Aguas Calientes. Simple, restorative, and absolutely perfect after the most physically demanding days of the honeymoon.

A boat tour of Lake Titicaca takes us across the highest navigable lake in the world to explore the hand-built floating Uros reed islands and the terraced hillsides of Taquile Island. The communities here have maintained their way of life for centuries and sharing even a few hours with them is one of the most humbling experiences of the entire trip.
