Mikhal is passionate about women's healthcare and has support Planned Parenthood since college. For the past century, Planned Parenthood has transformed women's health and empowered millions of people worldwide to make informed health decisions, forever changing the way they live, love, learn and work.

Alec is passionate about animals (particularly his childhood dog, Annie) and volunteered at the Humane Society in High School. The Humane Society of the United States is the nation's most effective animal protection organization. The Humane Society provides hands-on care and services to more than 100,000 animals each year, and have professionalized the field through education and training for local organizations. They are the leading animal advocacy organization, seeking a humane world for people and animals alike.

The Harlem Hitting Academy has played a big role in the Kaplan / Legow family. The founder, Youman Wilder, has been a mentor to Mikhal's brother, Sam. Youman has helped 100s of young men in Harlem and the South Bronx get college scholarships through baseball and education. The Harlem Baseball Hitting Academy, Inc. serves to combat community deterioration and juvenile delinquency, primarily in Harlem and the South Bronx, by promoting education and discipline through baseball education.

Mikhal and Alec went to school with Posse Scholars at Carleton College. Mikhal was extremely impressed by the program and has volunteered as a coach and developed partnership / internship programs with The Posse Foundation and her employers. Founded in 1989, Posse identifies public high school students with extraordinary academic and leadership potential who may be overlooked by traditional college selection processes. Posse extends to these students the opportunity to pursue personal and academic excellence by placing them in supportive, multicultural teams—Posses—of 10 students. Posse partner colleges and universities award Posse Scholars four-year, full-tuition leadership scholarships.
