Melissa & Barclay Wedding Registry

Melissa & Barclay

May 20, 2016

Some of our friends and family have asked us about setting up a registry. More than any gift, we are looking forward to having you celebrate with us. So, please make coming and enjoying yourself the priority and don’t worry about giving us a gift! As you know, we have been and will continue to be transient over the next few years as Barclay completes his residency and fellowships and we both look for work somewhere in this wide world. When we get back to Seattle, we will likely live in another studio without much space for gifts. If you feel strongly about giving us a gift, we have set up two options: contribution to our ‘honeymoon and getting started’ fund and/or a charitable donation. We have spent the last two years an ocean apart. In addition to getting married, June will be a wonderful time for us to spend a bit of time together before we return to work in Seattle in July. We would love to be able to take a short honeymoon before getting resorbed into the real word. Instead of saving for a honeymoon, we have prioritized Barclay’s tuition, our student loans, money for relocating to Seattle, and a great wedding. A little extra bread for even just a long weekend getaway would be an extraordinary gift for us! At the same time, we recognize how deeply blessed we are to have such wonderful families and friends and good health, and to be unaffected by disaster, conflict, and persecution. There are more than 60 million displaced persons globally and another 40 million in need of humanitarian assistance. However, humanitarian agencies currently have the funding to care for only 63% of the needs of these vulnerable and neglected persons. Barclay has been working with Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF), or Doctors Without Borders, for the past couple of years. They provide medical and surgical care for people affected by disaster or conflict, or who are excluded from care where no other care is available. In addition to Barclay’s relationship with MSF, they are a registered 501(c)(3) tax-exempt organization and have received the highest possible ratings by Charity Navigator for financial responsibility, accountability, and transparency.
