As the former capital of the Lanna Kingdom; the second-oldest Thai Kingdom after the Sukhothai Kingdom, Chiang Mai became a vital cultural and commercial crossroads city between Thailand, Myanmar (Burma), Laos and China. The first Thai culinary recipes, as identified by many ingredients that are still in use today such as lemongrass and galangal, have their roots in culinary use in the north and were perfected in the Chiang Mai royal courts. This private evening tour provides an insight into the culinary heritage of the “Rose of the North”. We'll sample the delights of Chiang Mai cuisine and the delicious Khao Soi – a delicious coconut curry noodle dish that is unique to Chiang Mai.

We'll drive to the top of the mountain along a scenic and windy road and make a photo stop at the summit, with 2565 meters above sea level the highest peak in Thailand. Near the summit you will find two interesting Chedis erected to commemorate the respected former King Bhumibol & Queen's 60th birthdays and each contain exquisitely crafted Buddha images as well as fine tiled murals. The views offered from the hills can be astounding on a clear day but there are often clouds covering the view. We'll hike the Kaew Mae Pan Nature Trail accompanied by a Hmong Hill Tribe guide. Part of the trail is along a mountain ridge with a beautiful view over west. Doi Inthanon National Park is also the location of some of the most spectacular waterfalls in Thailand. The most stunning sight is Mae Ya waterfalls, which cascades down from a height of 100 meters (330 feet).

There are countless floating markets throughout Thailand, but the Damnoen Saduak Floating Market is the most famous. Situated 110 km from Bangkok in Ratchaburi province, this market is like a trip back in time to the Siamof old. After visiting the market, we'll drive to Maeklong Station where we will visit the famous railway market.

We are having a "mini-moon" at The Sanctuary in Kiawah to rest and unwind after a weekend of celebrations. Eric will enjoy a round at The Ocean Course while Lindsey rides along giving unsolicited caddie advice and slurping cocktails.
