We will be kicking off the honeymoon spending two nights in a rustic villa by the Lagoa das Furnas

Propelling down a waterfall sounds like a good time to us!

We will be renting a car, mainly because we need one - but also so Dave can experience driving on the other side of the road ;)

Sweet bread and sweet rolls are a traditional baked good of Portugal, and are supposed to be delicious!

We will spend a couple of nights in Ponta Delgada, the island's biggest city.

Dave has been talking about mountain biking around the island's crater lakes since we first decided to visit the Azores!

For part of our trip, we plan to recharge on the quiet, scenic northern part of the island.

We'll be spending a couple nights in the Algarve on Portugal's south coast because we hear their beaches are amazing!

What better way to start our honeymoon voyage?

The breakfast basket at our villa will include Azorean cheeses and meats, jams and honey made on property, and “bolo lêvedo” -- a traditional local sweet bread -- among other delicious goodies.

After all the wedding planning, we are sure we could use a day of relaxation

The Azores Islands are one of the few places in the world that you can swim alongside wild dolphins in the open ocean.

The town of Furnas on Sao Miguel Island is full of naturally hot mineral springs

We'll have lots of opportunities to take advantage of the breathtaking island coastline

Before returning to the States, we're heading to mainland Portugal and will spend a night or two in Lisbon

We look forward to spending some time in Ponta Delgada, the biggest "city" in the Azores (its about half the size of Charleston!)

This unique dish is cooked underground by the geothermal heat of an active volcano. Naturally, we are intrigued!
