EarthEnable started with a dream to improve health outcomes through simple and affordable solutions.Traveling to Rwanda with the Stanford class “Entrepreneurial Design for Extreme Affordability”, in 2013, four Stanford students were tasked with their partner organization – The Mass Design Group - to design a product or a service that would make homes or communities healthier. They first sought to understand how sub-optimal homes affected physical and emotional health outcomes and were shocked to discover the significant health problems that dirt floors cause. Eliminating a dirt floor from the home results in dramatic reductions in childhood asthma, diarrhea, malnutrition, and parasitic infestations.They realized that they could change lives if they found a way to floor Rwanda.

Since our founding, MAC has helped in over 157,000 emergency situations and provided over $9,300,000 of assistance to low-income families in the following ways:Rent and Utilities: MAC provides assistance to low-income, working households that are in a temporary financial crisis to prevent eviction and disconnection of electricity, gas, and water. Last year, MAC made 390 rent payments and paid 588 utility bills.Groceries: MAC has a food pantry that provides non-perishable food for households experiencing a temporary shortage. Even though MAC’s clients are below the poverty line, many are not eligible for food stamps and need help with putting food on the table. Last year, MAC provided 5,042 bags of groceries to 3,102 people in need, including over 500 hungry children.Transportation: MAC provides MARTA passes for people job hunting, or with a new job, until they receive their first paycheck. Last year, MAC provided 2,243 transit passes.Clothing and Shoes: MAC’s clothing closet provides men with interview and work outfits. MAC also purchases nonslip shoes and black pants for restaurant workers and steel-toed boots for construction workers. Last year, MAC gave out 1,841 outfits and specialty work pants and shoes.Georgia Identification: Without ID, finding a job is nearly impossible. MAC helps pay for people to get a state ID. MAC assisted with 119 vouchers for people to obtain Georgia ID last year.Referrals: When clients are in need of more than MAC can provide, staff refer clients to partner organizations. MAC received over 3,700 referrals from United Way’s 211 Information System last year.
