Katie Parla's cookbook, Food of the Italian South, hasn't left Johnny's bedside table since we started planning this trip. She's an amazing food writer who lives and works in Rome and has connections to many of our favorite chefs in the US who are creating authentic Italian food (she co-wrote most of their cookbooks). And she takes travelers on personalized tours throughout Italy! We're hoping to spend a day with her early in our trip to get the inside scoop on the best bites and sips we can find during out month in Italy.
